BiharWatch is hosted in the Bhojpuri speaking region that comprises of Bhojpur, Eastern and Western Champaran, Buxar, Rohtas, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj and Kaimur. While it covers whole of Bihar it focuses on these nine districts out of the 38 districts in Bihar and 640 districts in India. Sone is an important river besides Ganga and Gandak in this region.

Acoording to the Road Map for Development of Power Sector in Bihar – A Report of the Special Task Force on Bihar, Govt. of India, July 2007, Bihar has approx. 600 MW of its own generation capacity, is heavily dependent on the power supplied by Central Generating Stations.
